Pull the trigger and don't let go

Title: Pull the trigger and don't let go
Pairing: Soohyun-centric
Word Count: 1788
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: language, suggestive situations
Summary: Soohyun's life gets just a little harder when he's assigned to take care of the new recruit.
Notes: Mafia AU inspired by that damn photoshoot. 8| I tried to pick a pairing, but when writing anything Soohyun-centric it gets a little too weird for that to work (Soohyun/universe is otp, bawls). There will be at least one more part(s) to this, and there are too many pairings to even try and list. No idea if there will be a coherent plot. 8)

Kevin doesn't even blink when Soohyun comes barreling through the door of his office and slams a gun down on his desk. He eyes the pistol only a moment before returning the screen of his laptop, scrolling through an Excel spreadsheet of assignments.

Soohyun's practically huffing, he's breathing so hard. "You gave him a gun," he says, low and threatening.

"He passed the test," Kevin replies with a shrug that barely even raises his shoulders.

"You gave him a gun," Soohyun repeats, the last word rising in tone like a question as he runs his fingers through his hair. Rolling his eyes, Kevin turns in his swiveling chair and crosses his arms. Soohyun falters at Kevin's glare and takes out a toothpick, chewing on the tip in agitation.

Kevin gets to his feet and smiles with his typical mix of kindness and slight menace. "You were the one who insisted upon the test," he explains slowly, smoothing the lapels on Soohyun's suit while Soohyun desperately tries to read his expression. "We even let you decide what the text would be. He passed, Soohyun, there's no more room for argument." With that and a sharp nod toward the door, Kevin returns to his desk and pushes the pistol with the tips of his fingers toward Dongho, who lounges in the doorway.

"I knew that must've been your doing," Dongho mutters as he crosses the room and snatches up the gun before Soohyun can get at it. He spins it in his fingers before shoving it into his holster with a smirk. He meets Soohyun's glare levelly. "You heard Kevin; I passed your stupid test so the gun is mine." Soohyun's doubt must show because Dongho frowns and shakes his shoulders in a small tantrum. "Come on, hyung, you've seen me shoot. You taught me to shoot!" His polished leather shoes kick at the plush carpet, most unbecoming. Part of Soohyun wants to comment on the fact that Dongho never calls anyone 'hyung' unless he wants something, but Soohyun claps a hand onto the boy's shoulder and squeezes comfortingly.

"Even so, you're only sixteen," he says with an obvious strain in his voice. Dongho starts to fidget again, so Soohyun concedes with a mumbled, "We'll talk about this later," promising himself that it's only for the time being in order to avoid a scene. Dongho grins triumphantly and doesn't even mind when Soohyun's attention returns to Kevin. Sliding in behind Kevin's chair, he leans over and attempts to read the entires in the spreadsheet, only to have Kevin shut the laptop entirely. Ignoring Kevin's annoyed sigh, he rests his head on Kevin's shoulder and wraps his arms around his thin shoulders. "Come on, are there any good assignments?" he coos into Kevin's ear.

A sharp laugh. "Not for you." He pulls away and frowns, shoving his hands into his pockets. Kevin cocks his head and smiles that deceptively sweet smile with sparkling, amused eyes. "You're on Collections duty until further notice. Orders from the top." He chuckles when Soohyun's mouth falls open and starts to stutter a protest, shaking his blond head. "Since you trained him and took such an interest in his skills, you've been chosen to take care of Dongho. We're placing him with you and Eli until he adjusts."

Not one to give up, Soohyun leans back in and lets his mouth brush against Kevin's ear as he breathes, "I'm sure there's something we could do about that." Unfortunately for him, Kevin appears to be prepared for such an assault.

Without so much as a stutter, he replies. "Who do you think I am, Kiseob?" Soohyun pulls back, defeated, and can't help but laugh. "Speaking of," Kevin continues with a sly grin. "Kibum says you need to stop harassing his partner. He hasn't seen Kiseob all week and he says you should be a bit more considerate. Their work is suffering."

"That's funny," Soohyun quips, returning the grin, "because Kiseob only came over once this week and I could have sworn I saw him hanging around your place yesterday." If Kevin is surprised or angry, he doesn't show it. He touches his chin, apparently thinking, but shrugs.

Soohyun turns to go, but just barely hears Kevin mumble, "No need for jealousy."

He turns on Kevin, not really sure whether he's going to argue or finally do some long overdue damage to that pretty face, but Kevin is already looking away, focused once again on the spreadsheet. "That's what you get," Dongho chirps, his lips curled into a self-satisfied smirk. While Soohyun fumes, speechless, the kid links their arms and leads him out of the office. "Take good care of me, hyung."

Eli is closing the refrigerator door, not even fully dressed yet in his suit pants and t-shirt, when Soohyun enters with Dongho taking his time outside. "Back already?" he asks with a piece of bread in his mouth. Soohyun sinks into the old couch and doesn't answer. Eli closes the fridge after fishing out a bottle of water and continues to watch his partner. Soohyun can feel Eli watching and for some stupid reason, it infuriates him.

"He's with us," he barks and indicates Dongho, who finally manages to mosey in from outside, with a jerk of his thumb. Dongho nods to Eli, who raises his eyebrows while chewing his bread. "For the love of God, please remind me to never argue with Kevin again."

Eli smiles. "Ah, you raised a fuss so they stuck him with you? They're smart."

"Easy for you to say," he grumbles, but feels the corners of his mouth twitching in a barely restrained smile. "Anyway," he continues with a heavy sigh, "we're doing Collections for a while." His partner rolls his eyes and is about to reply, but Dongho cuts in with an overly innocent smile.

"What's Collections?" Dongho perches on the arm of the couch next to Soohyun and nudges him with his elbow. Tempted to push Dongho off, Soohyun resists. Luckily Eli chooses to answer for him.

He leans against the kitchen counter and practically spits, "Debt collecting."

The kid looks surprised, but not displeased. "Is it fun?" he asks with a hopeful glance at Soohyun.

"Not unless you enjoy barging into peoples' houses, threatening their families and even wrecking shit to get a few bucks out of 'em." Getting to his feet, Soohyun bares down on Dongho, making him flinch. "Let me see your gun."

Now Dongho rises and edges toward the door. "No way. Kevin said I could keep it." With his chin raised like that, his mouth threatening to pout, he looks just like the kid he is and Soohyun's stomach turns in unease.

He takes a deep breath. "I'm just going to make sure it's loaded."

A pause and Dongho's eyes narrow just a bit. "Really?" At Soohyun's nod, he reaches into his back holster and reluctantly draws out the weapon. Soohyun promptly grabs it and tosses it over his shoulder to Eli, who snatches it with his free hand while taking another swig of water with the other. He then crosses to the desk in the living room, drops the gun into a draw, turns the key in the drawer's lock and tosses the key to Soohyun. All of this happens in the span of maybe five seconds, and leaves Dongho reeling and and steaming. Giving Eli a heated glare, he turns on Soohyun with balled fists as if ready to take the much larger man on. "That's my fucking gun," he growls, but Soohyun chuckles and tucks the little key into the pocket on the inside of his suit jacket.

Across the room, Eli shuffles through the contents of another drawer until he pulls out something small and metallic. Soohyun steps over and takes it from him, shooting Dongho a benevolent smile and nodding at the object. "No, this is your gun," he says and places the derringer into Dongho's hand. Dongho's eyes go wide and wild, staring at the gun and then at Soohyun in bitter rage.

"The fuck is this?" he practically shrieks, making to throw it at Soohyun but thinking better of it at the last second. Soohyun's glad for that as he's genuinely unsure this time whether that one is loaded.

"That's all you'll need if we're doing Collections." He turns to Eli and looks him over. "We need to head out soon, so get dressed and get your gun." He says it not without a bit of regret at the first part, and it must show on his face because Eli smirks and chuckles, pulling at the bottom of his t-shirt in a way meaningful only to Soohyun. He inhales sharply, but is brought out of his momentary daze by Dongho's whining voice.

"Oh, so he gets to bring a real gun?" Dongho glares with envy at the AK-47 Eli carefully carries out of the hall closet and swings over his shoulder.

"For intimidation, not for use," he replies curtly and pats Dongho's head hard enough to make the boy wince. While Eli goes to finish getting dressed, Soohyun beams at Dongho, who sits on the edge of the couch and stares dejectedly at the little gun in his hand. "Cheer up," he says kindly, taking the gun from his hands and reaching around the boy to put it into its holster. Before he can let go, Dongho wraps his arms around Soohyun's neck and smirks. Soohyun blinks and gulps with some effort at their sudden close proximity.

"Don't touch me like that unless you mean it," he mutters almost into Soohyun's mouth. It's at that exact moment that Eli returns, now in his dress shirt and suit jacket with his hair slicked back just so. Soohyun begs him for help with his eyes, his voice failing him, but Eli laughs shortly.

"I don't know you liked 'em that young."

Dongho starts laughing so hard he lets go of Soohyun, who takes advantage of his freedom to get as far away from his new partner as he can. He sees Dongho roll his eyes, but they're already running behind and he figures he'd better get used to it. With a quick glance he confirms that Eli is ready, and Dongho is as ready as he's ever going to be. He heads to the door without a word and Eli immediately follows, but not Dongho. "What about your gun?" he asks with a hint of sarcasm, falling in next to Eli with a slight, but noticeable swagger.

"Some people don't need guns," he replies with a wicked smirk and grabs a baseball bat from beside the door, swinging it over his shoulder as the three exit the apartment.
